Phainopepla - beautiful rare vagrant typically found in Texas/Arizona made its way up to Southern Ontario. Only the second record of one in Ontario - i feel most fortunate people are willing to share such a sighting publicly and provide others the opportunity to witness it.
Adult Male Rose-breasted Grosbeak. I was very happy with the environment and the background in this shot. They seemed to help add interest and depth to the subject bird with contrasting colour schemes and textures.
Black Skimmer: Quite amazing and unexpected to see a flock of 30 birds fly in and land at my feet. Photographically, perhaps not the most captivating image...but certainly an experience i won't soon forget.
Sandhill Crane. Tried maximizing the aperture on my second visit to photograph these beautiful creatures. I was pleased to keep the sharpness at f/6.3 compared to f/8 in the hazy conditions. I think the blurred foreground and background helps bring the focus to the bird.
My friends delight in the lengths i will go to to capture a shot ethically. This shot was an especially popular story as i was basically at ground level in a sewage lagoon waiting for a baird's sandpiper to walk past. I especially enjoyed when others remarked how pretty a sewage lagoon can be!
